  • Jared Kushner, Ivanka Refused to Say Donald Trump Isn’t ‘Antisemitic’—Book

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump refused to release a statement during the 2024 presidential campaign saying President Donald Trump is not “antisemitic,” according to reporting by Michael Wolff in his new book, All or Nothing.

    Why It Matters

President Trump has long faced accusations from critics that he’s antisemitic, and the allegations were raised again during the 2024 campaign. Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, is Jewish, and his wife, Ivanka, converted to Judaism before they married.

Donald Trump has repeatedly touted his support for Jews and Israel but has also accused American Jews who do not support him of being “disloyal.” During the 2024 campaign, he suggested his potential loss would be the fault of Jewish voters who did not support him. The president’s support and flirtation with far-right groups who have neo-Nazi leanings has also sparked alarm from critics.

    What To Know

Wolff, in new book set to be released on Tuesday, wrote that Kushner and Ivanka Trump declined requests from the Trump campaign to give a public endorsement, and also refused to release a statement stating that the president is not “antisemitic.”

“Trump, not for the first time, turned to Jared for Jewish cover, explicitly asking him and Ivanka for a public endorsement. As Trump had continued to waffle, The Washington Post, the campaign understood, was working on a piece that would recycle all the language Trump had variously used over the years, which, on its face, might certainly sound anti-Semitic. Kushner kept dodging on the formal endorsement of his father-in-law. The campaign then tried to settle for merely a statement from him that his father-in-law was not anti-Semitic,” Wolff wrote.

The book continues: “‘No, Ivanka and I aren’t going to do that. We’re not going to go and put our names on something and get in the middle of things. That’s just not what we’re going to do this time,’ Kushner said, finally ending it.”

Earlier in the book, Wolff also outlined alleged frustrations Donald Trump has with Kushner related to his Jewish identity and efforts in the Middle East during his first administration. Kushner was a key adviser during Donald Trump’s first term, and spearheaded deals between Israel and Arab countries, known as the “Abraham Accords.”

“One of the many reasons he’s mad at his son-in-law, Jared Kushner—Jewish Jared—to whom he gave carte blanche in a Mideast portfolio, is that he doesn’t understand why, after he did everything he did— with the embassy, with the Golan Heights, and with getting (well, with Jared getting) other Arab countries to go along with Israel—he still gets sh***y support from Jewish voters,” Wolff wrote.

The author also suggested that Kushner thought his father-in-law didn’t have much of a future after his first term.

“Kushner’s own clear and immediate post–White House plan was to put distance between himself and his father-in-law. Asked about his father-in-law’s future by a friend, Kushner replied, ‘What was Nixon’s future?’”

Former President Richard Nixon resigned in disgrace in 1974 to avoid an impeachment by Congress over the infamous “Watergate scandal.”

    Is Michael Wolff Credible?

Some critics have questioned the accuracy of some of Wolff’s previous claims about Trump and the Trump administration. Arkansas’ Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a Republican who served as White House press secretary under Trump from 2017 to 2019, said that Wolff’s previous book Fire and Fury contained “mistake after mistake after mistake.”

She questioned Wolff’s integrity, saying, “I think you have to look at this author’s track record,” and referred to the book as “tabloid gossip” and “full of lies.”

Wolff responded that he has recordings and notes and stands by “absolutely everything in the book.”

    What People Are Saying

Trump White House’s communications director Steven Cheung told Newsweek on Saturday: “Michael Wolff is a lying sack of sh** and has been proven to be a fraud. He routinely fabricates stories originating from his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain.”

A spokesperson for Jared Kushner told Newsweek on Saturday: “Both are completely false and never happened. Michael Wolff seems to be keeping his ’making shit up to get media attention’ streak alive.”

Jared Kushner posted last month to X, formerly Twitter, on Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day, including a photo of him and his wife with the president: “Congratulations to President Trump. I am excited for the incredible opportunities ahead for America and the world.”

Ivanka Trump posted several photos of herself with Kushner and her father at his inauguration to X on January 20. She captioned one: “45 / 47” followed by three American flag emojis.

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), said in September 2024: “Preemptively blaming American Jews for your potential election loss… increases their sense of alienation in a moment of vulnerability when right-wing extremists and left-wing anti-zionists continually demonize and slander Jews.”

    What Happens Next?

Wolff’s book is set to be released on Tuesday. Kushner and Ivanka Trump have not taken any role in the new Trump administration but have continued to publicly show support for Donald Trump since he won last year’s election and took office.

Update 2/22/25 at 2:42 p.m. ET: A statement from a Kushner spokesperson was added.

Lorne Michaels appears to be riveted by Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s ongoing legal dispute, according to former “SNL” cast member Dana Carvey.

On Thursday’s episode of his and fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum David Spade’s “Fly on the Wall podcast,” Carvey, 69, shared that Michaels, 80, has repeatedly texted him about the drama between the “It Ends With Us” stars.

Their exchange began after Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, 48, poked fun at the feud during the “SNL” 50th anniversary special in a segment where Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took questions from the star-studded audience in Studio 8H. Poehler, 53, asked the “Deadpool & Wolverine” star, “Ryan Reynolds, how’s it going?” Reynolds then retorted: “Great. Why? What have you heard?”

“The Baldoni-Lively extravaganza was all over the show,” said Carvey, who starred on “SNL” from 1986 to 1993.

The “Church Lady” comic, who did not attend the anniversary special because he had the flu, then revealed that when he messaged Michaels afterward to congratulate him and say that he wished he could have attended, all his former boss wanted to talk about was Lively, 37, and Reynolds’ battle with Baldoni, 41.

“Instead of talking about the show, he just goes, ‘Baldoni will now countersue. I think that Lively will probably get a new attorney,’” Carvey said.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are seen on the set of ‘It Ends with Us’ on January 12, 2024 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Even when Carvey tried to pivot the conversation to praise Tom Hanks’ performance and Steve Martin’s opening monologue, Michaels allegedly replied with another text about the “It Ends With Us” legal fight.

“I don’t know where Ryan Reynolds is on this, but certainly they have deep pockets,” Carvey said the producer responded.

“So certainly, it was big at that 50th,” the funnyman added of the Lively-Baldoni dispute.

A rep for Michaels did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Carvey and Spade, 60, also discussed famed “SNL” cue card guy Wally Feresten’s comments about Reynolds’ joke.

“He had a different line in rehearsal and he pitched that [line] to replace it,” Feresten claimed in a recent interview with Australian breakfast radio show “Fifi, Fev & Nick” when asked whether the quip was an improv on the “Free Guy” star’s part or if it was scripted.

“So that was his idea to do it there,” Feresten added. “We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it. So yeah, that was his line. That was his idea to do.”

A source close to Reynolds previously told The Post that Feresten’s remarks are not accurate. “The opening joke was pitched by ‘SNL’ and never changed. The follow up joke was rewritten in rehearsal,” the insider said.

A rep for NBC also called Feresten’s version of events “not true.” An insider close to “SNL” added, “Wally is not part of the writing process or part of any of those decisions.”

“He’s so sweet and naive; they definitely wanna get one answer from him,” Spade said of Feresten’s interview.

Carvey then extended an invite to Baldoni to appear on his and Spade’s podcast. “I’ll say this right now. If he wants to come on and tell his story, I would love that,” the “Wayne’s World” star said.

Lively sued Baldoni last December, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a public smear campaign against her.

The “Jane the Virgin” alum has denied all of Lively’s accusations. He countersued her and Reynolds, alleging defamation, extortion and more — allegations their team denied.

Earlier this week, the “Gossip Girl” star filed an amended version of her complaint against her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, alleging that she “was not alone in raising allegations of on-set misconduct.”

The actress’ legal team also added a “new claim of defamation” against Baldoni to their filing.

Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, denied Lively’s accusations in the amended suit, previously telling The Post, “Her underwhelming amended complaint is filled with unsubstantial hearsay of unnamed persons who are clearly no longer willing to come forward or publicly support her claims.”

  • Robert De Niro reveals surprising true story behind famous ‘You talkin’ to me?’ scene in ‘Taxi Driver’

Robert De Niro on “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Feb. 20, 2025.

Robert De Niro has shared the backstory behind one of the most unforgettable moments in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 masterpiece “Taxi Driver,” revealing that the iconic scene was partially improvised.

During an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark” on Thursday, the 81-year-old actor recalled how some of the best moments in film come from spontaneous improvisation. “Some of the best stuff, not always, is when it’s improvised,” De Niro told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

In “Taxi Driver,” De Niro’s portrayal of disturbed cabbie Travis Bickle birthed one of the most memorable scenes in cinema history: standing in front of a mirror, Bickle talks to himself and points a gun at his reflection as he imagines facing off with a foe.

“You talkin’ to me? You talkin’ to me? You talkin’ to me? Then who the hell else are you talkin’ to?” De Niro, as Bickle, famously demands of his invisible adversary. “You talkin’ to me? Well, I’m the only one here. Who the f–k do you think you’re talking to?”

During his chat with Ripa and Consuelos, De Niro said that the scene wasn’t entirely scripted. “The producer [of the film] … said on some show that Marty had said it was all improvised. We had something [on the page], I forget exactly but Marty remembers a lot better than I do,” the actor shared.

“It seemed right,” De Niro added, reflecting on the moment. “It was done spontaneously. You don’t know what’s going to [happen]. That’s the fun of working, especially with someone like Marty Scorsese. It’s nice to be able to go here and there, go off, following the scene or the thrust of the story, but you can go here and there. You never know when that stuff is usable.”

De Niro’s performance in “Taxi Driver” earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The trophy ended up going to the late Peter Finch for his role in “Network.”

In 2003, Bickle was ranked as the 30th greatest movie villain in movie history by the American Film Institute in their “AFI 100 Years…100 Heroes & Villains” list.

Although plans for a “Taxi Driver” sequel were discussed in the early 2000s, with De Niro and Scorsese working with screenwriter Paul Schrader, the project was ultimately abandoned in 2013 when the famous director grew dissatisfied with the script.

Robert De Niro attends “A Bronx Tale” screening during the 2023 Tribeca Festival at Beacon Theatre on June 17, 2023 in New York City.

Nearly 50 years since “Taxi Driver,” De Niro’s performance continues to influence film and popular culture. When the “Goodfellas” star made a cameo in a “Debbie Downer” sketch on Sunday’s “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special,” Debbie (Rachel Dratch) responded to De Niro’s request for a straw by asking, “You talking to me?
