The battle between Sam Altman and Elon Musk, two tech billionaires at the forefront of the artificial intelligence race, took a personal turn in a recent interview.
When asked if he thought Musk’s targeting of OpenAI stemmed from insecurity, Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, told Bloomberg that “probably his whole life is from a position of insecurity. I feel for the guy. “I don’t think he’s a happy person.”
Musk, who owns xAI, put in a $97.4 billion bid for his rival OpenAI, which Altman rejected. Musk has a number of lawsuits against OpenAI, and he accuses the company of reneging on a previous commitment to being a nonprofit, referring to “Scam Altman”.
“I wish he would just compete by building a better product, but I think there’s been a lot of tactics,” Altman said in his Bloomberg interview. “Many, many lawsuits, all sorts of other crazy stuff, now this, and we’ll try to just put our head down and keep working.”
This war is far from over. With Altman urging Musk to focus on building a better AI product, who will win in the end? Newsweek asked some experts for their thoughts and here’s what they said.
Left, xAI’s Elon Musk delivers remarks as he join U.S. President Donald Trump during an executive order signing in the Oval Office at the White House on February 11, 2025 in Washington, DC. Right, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman speaks at a panel discussion on potentials, perspectives and challenges in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Technical University (TU) in Berlin on February 7, 2025.
Nabil Jawdat Sarhan: OpenAI Is Increasingly Difficult to Compete With
As AI continues to surge in significance, the quest for AI dominance shows no signs of abating—whether it’s among corporations or between nations.
The well-known AI rivalry between the U.S. and China, as well as the competition between OpenAI and xAI, is just the tip of the iceberg. Numerous other conflicts, potentially even fiercer, are unfolding behind the scenes.
As the maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI holds the advantage of being the pioneer in making the world realize the true power and potential of AI.
Now, as the keystone of the $500 billion Stargate project, OpenAI has become increasingly difficult to compete with, making the prospect of acquisition, though unlikely, seem comparatively more viable.
Nabil Jawdat Sarhan is associate professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at at Wayne State University, and Director, Wayne State Computer Systems and Deep Learning Research Lab.
Stuart Russell: We’re All Losers in This War
Given our current state of understanding of how to control superhuman AI systems, no one will win: We will all lose, because we are likely to lose control over the systems they produce. As Altman has said, it’s “Lights out for all of us”.
Stuart Russell is Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley, and Smith-Zadeh Professor in Engineering; Professor of Cognitive Science; Professor of Computational Precision Health, UCSF; and Honorary Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford.
Alexandra V. Mousavizadeh: Musk’s xAI Is Behind. His Overture to OpenAI Is Concerning
While we don’t know who is going to win, we do know that the future is in open source models, and that’s undermining OpenAI. Model prices are already trending down and future industry revenue will be in inference and agent-based AI.
Whatever his motivation, the OpenAI board will have a fiduciary responsibility to consider an offer from Musk or anyone else.
It’s not clear what Musk’s end game is. We do know that he is saying that AI is the hottest topic in town, but he doesn’t have skin in the game. xAI appears significantly behind OpenAI in development.
His motivation could be to control something very powerful or just to slow down OpenAI in order to allow XAI to improve—seize the new market opportunity—or to break up OpenAI and render his competition obsolete.
Regardless of his motivation, Musk’s overture should be concerning. Musk owning OpenAI would be problematic. Too much power would be concentrated into his hands and his decisions could have broad ramifications on the stock market.
Similarly to what happened with Twitter, we could also see customers decide to walk away if OpenAI were to fall in his hands.

Haym B. Hirsch: AI Has Room for Many Winners
There won’t be a single winner in the AI tech wars—there’s plenty of room for multiple winners. In addition to OpenAI and xAI other significant players in this space include Alphabet/Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta/Facebook, and Nvidia.
However, comparing OpenAI and xAI specifically, OpenAI is responsible for more of the innovative ideas permeating AI than is the case for xAI.
That means that OpenAI might be first to market with many AI innovations, but xAI also has talented people that keeps them timely in AI.
Haym B. Hirsh is a professor of computer science at Cornell University.
Elad Inbar: OpenAi and xAI Both Offer Tremendous Value
AI is evolving at lightning speed, faster than most of us can keep up with. Every day brings a new breakthrough or innovation that didn’t even exist a few days ago. In such a dynamic landscape, one company might lead today only to be outpaced by another tomorrow.
The real difference lies not in the ever-improving technical skills but in the underlying concepts driving each approach.
OpenAI seems to take a more mainstream route to handling information, while xAI is leveraging X’s vast pool of opinions to shape its training data.
But both companies offer tremendous value across a wide range of areas, from medical insights and coding expertise to reasoning and general knowledge.
Elad Inbar is founder and CEO of RobotLAB Inc.
Wedbush: Musk’s Bid Is a Fly in the Ointment for OpenAI
In a nutshell, Altman is the golden boy of the AI Revolution but Musk has massive power in the Beltway and this chain of events is likely just the start of a bigger soap opera poised to play out between Musk and Altman.
The AI Arms Race is heating up in Big Tech and OpenAI has a very strong market position which poses a risk to other tech players including Musk.
We would expect the OpenAI Board to formally reject this bid and continue its capital-raising process although the Musk-led bid is a fly in the ointment for Altman and OpenAI.
Comments from a note sent out by analysts at Wedbush Securities after Musk’s bid for OpenAI.
President Donald Trump has reminded the Supreme Court that it gave him almost absolute immunity last year and the “unrestricted power” to fire federal officials.
The statement came in his appeal to the Supreme Court after a lower federal court blocked him from firing special counsel Hampton Dellinger.
Why It Matters
On July 1, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Trump, and any other president, had absolute immunity for core presidential actions and presumptive immunity for noncore presidential acts.
The current appeal that Trump has taken to the Supreme Court is the first real test of that presidential power since Trump resumed office on January 20.

What To Know
Former President Joe Biden appointed Dellinger as special counsel in charge of an office where federal workers could safely report corruption and wrongdoing.
Trump’s office fired Dellinger on February 7 with a one-line email.
On February 12, Washington, D.C., federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson reinstated Dellinger until she held a full hearing on February 26.
In a February 16 Supreme Court appeal of Berman Jackson’s ruling, acting Solicitor General Sarah M. Harris relied heavily on the Supreme Court’s July 1 ruling on presidential immunity.
“As this Court observed just last Term, ‘Congress cannot act on, and courts cannot examine, the President’s actions on subjects within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority’ —including ‘the President’s unrestricted power of removal with respect to ‘executive officers of the United States whom [the President] has appointed,’” Harris wrote.
Harris quoted the Supreme Court as stating that the president has “unrestricted power to remove” the most senior federal officers he has appointed. She wrote that “enjoining the President and preventing him from exercising these powers thus inflicts the gravest of injuries on the Executive Branch and the separation of powers.”
What People Are Saying
Judge Amy Berman Jackson, in her February 12 decision reinstating special counsel Hampton Dellinger: “Defendants imply that it would be too disruptive to the business of the agency to have Special Counsel Dellinger resume his work. But any disruption to the work of the agency was occasioned by the White House.”
“It’s as if the bull in the china shop looked back over his shoulder and said, ‘What a mess!’” she wrote.
What Happens Next
The Supreme Court has yet to say whether it will hear Trump’s appeal. If it does, it would likely be expedited, given the seriousness of the issue and the potential conflict it causes within the executive branch of government.
Harris has asked the Supreme Court for “an immediate administrative stay of the district court’s order pending the Court’s consideration of this application.”

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift remain private after sparking concerns about relationship

The Anti-Hero hitmaker has not broken cover since the big game, and skipped her bff Danielle Haim’s birthday bash.
The 14-time-Grammy winner has been inactive on social media as well also she did not react to her close pal and collaborator Este Haim’s engagement news.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has received a deadline of March 14th, to confirm whether he is retiring or not.

A TikTok user, started the controversy about Swift and Kelce’s relationship troubles as she posted a video that went viral.
“Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are about to enter a new phase of their relationship. Because they have only been with each other when they’ve been winning. This year, they both lost. She lost Album of the Year and now he just lost the Super Bowl,” King said.
“So now they have to be with each other and see that side; see the losing side of Taylor Swift, see the losing side of Travis Kelce. They don’t know each other as losers, they only know each other as winners.”

Lizzo looks back on her friendship with SZA, which led to their collaboration ‘F2F’ in 2022
Lizzo sings praises of
Lizzo just let fans in on a wild piece of her and SZA’s past as the former gears up for a new music era — the longtime friends once planned to start a rock band.
During a Valentine’s Day Twitch stream, around the 54-minute mark, Lizzo reminisced about her long-time friendship with SZA and their past studio sessions, which nearly led to a rock trio called “Pussy Lasers.”
“We were going to start a rock band called Pussy Lasers with an incredible other artist who I don’t know if she even wants to be mentioned,” she said.
Although the band never materialised, their time in the studio resulted in F2F, a grunge-inspired track that landed on SZA’s 2022 album SOS. Lizzo recalled watching SZA freestyle almost the entire song, saying, “She writes the craziest, most insane shit that you’re thinking and feeling, but she just finds a way to say it.”
The About Damn Time hitmaker also revealed she recorded a “mumble verse” for the song that didn’t make the final cut, though some of her harmonies remained.
“I [hoped she’d put] it on the album,” Lizzo admitted, before adding that SZA later surprised her with the finished version. “And this is why she’s the GOAT.”
As for Lizzo’s own music, she confirmed that she’s closing out her Special era on February 28 after a long wait, teasing, “The new era begins today… I truly am coming to gag throats.”
Elon Musk’s estranged daughter Vivian Wilson is breaking her silence after the Tesla founder allegedly fathered his 13th child with author Ashley St. Clair.
In a post shared via TikTok on Saturday, February 15, Wilson, 21, claimed she found out that the children’s book author had allegedly given birth to her apparent sibling on Reddit. Musk has yet to publicly confirm the news himself.
“Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I found out I had half-siblings through Reddit, I’d have two nickels … which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice, right,” she said in the clip.
Wilson legally changed her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson in June 2022. “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” she told a judge in Los Angeles, who granted the request.
St. Clair claimed via X on Saturday, February 14, that she gave birth to Musk’s 13th child five months ago. “Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” she wrote. “I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”
“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting,” St. Clair added.
Musk is already a father to 12 children with three different women. He and his first wife Justine Wilson, who were married from 2000 to 2008, have five children together. (Musk and Wilson, 51, also shared a son Nevada, who died of sudden infant death syndrome when he was 10 weeks old.) Musk and pop star Grimes have three, and he also recently welcomed this third child with Neurolink executive Shivon Zillis.
On Sunday, February 15, St. Clair issued another statement about her alleged parenting plans with Musk. “Ashley & Elon have been privately working towards the creation of an agreement about raising their child for some time,” her rep Brian Glicklich shared via X.
“It is disappointing that a tabloid reporter, who repeatedly ambushed Ashley and her family, made it impossible to complete that process confidentially,” Glicklich continued. “We are waiting for Elon to publicly acknowledge his parental role with Ashley, to end unwarranted speculation, and Ashley trusts that Elon intends to finish their agreement quickly, in the best interests of the wellbeing and security of the child they share.”
Buckingham Palace releases King Charles’ personal statement
King Charles stands with Canada after Trump’s statement
King Charles III has seemingly reminded his son Prince Harry that he’s the head of state of Canada with his latest move.
Buckingham Palace has released the monarch’s personal statement amid Harry’s Invictus Games in Vancouver.
The 76-year-old appeared to support the nation with his powerful words as the North American country celebrated the 60th anniversary of its National Flag on February.
The monarch, who is Canada’s head of state, praised the “resilient” in his statement, which comes at the time US President Donald Trump suggested that Canada should be made the “51st state”.
The US president has repeatedly suggested that Canada could become a US state to avoid major tariffs on trade.
The King, in his message, states: “Today my wife and I join with Canadians across Canada, and around the world, to commemorate an important milestone – the 60th anniversary of the Canadian flag. On February 15, 1965, the red and white maple leaf was first flown on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
“Since that time, it has become internationally recognised as a symbol of a proud, resilient and compassionate country.
“For my own part, it is a symbol that never fails to elicit a sense of pride and admiration, as I recall with the deepest affection my many Canadian visits and friendships.”
The King’s message comes after the US president said: “What I’d like to see – Canada become our 51st state.”
The comments, made both in posts on the social media platform Truth Social and in remarks to reporters, were dismissed by Canadian officials as a joke when first mentioned in December.
According to Ipsos poll, conducted in January, 80 per cent of Canadians oppose their country becoming part of the US, with officials strongly against the suggestion.
